JNU Makes Presence in Kerala Assembly


20 May 2016| Friday : Two faces of JNU made it to the Kerala Legislative Assembly 2016. One of them is an alumnus whereas one is pursuing his Ph.D.

Former M-Phil student from Canadian studies, School of International Studies, Roji M John tried its luck on a Congress ticket from Angamaly constituency in Ernakulum. Congress is the leading party in United Democratic Front (UDF) .  Roji won by a majority of 9186. He gained 66666 votes against his opponent from Janata Dal (S) Benny, who gained 57480.

Current PhD student from Adult Education in School of Social Sciences, Muhammad Muhsin had contested from Pattamby constituency in Palakkad district as a representative of Communist Party of India. CPI is the second largest party of Left Democratic Front(LDF). Muhsin won the election by a majority of 7404. He gained 64025 against his opponent C P Muhammad who had been the MLA from Pattamby for three consecutive terms.

Both of them have helped their parties to retrieve their respective constituencies from their opponents. Muhsin is the youngest member of the current assembly and his candidature had helped his party to increase their clout amongst youth. Many of his friends from JNU had actively campaigned for him. JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar had also campaigned at Pattamby for Muhsin.

Roji is the current president of NSUI National Committee and Muhsin is the Vice President of JNU-AISF unit.
