JNU Bags 4 Medals at the 20th National Sports Meet for the Blind


New Delhi: A team of 3 men and 4 women students from JNU participated in the 20th IBSA National Sports Meet for the Blind held at Thyagraj Stadium, here in Delhi from 12 – 15 December 2016.

The individual medal winners were Nidhi Mishra (M.Phil/PhD-CHS/SSS), who won a gold in the discus throw, a silver in shot put, and a gold again in 100m; Reena (M. Phil- CPS/SSS) won a bronze medal in 100 m. Shaikh Mohammad Kaish (MPhil/SIS), Jyoti Singh (M. Phil/PhD-SIS), Jyoti Singh (Senior) (M. Phil/PhD-SIS), Raghavendra Mishra (M. Phil-Sanskrit Center) had all put up a good show in their respective events. A total 4 medals were bagged by the six-member athletics team from JNU. Ashoka K. (M.Phil/PhD-International studies) participated in the game of Chess and won four out of six rounds.

It is noteworthy that the Sports Office has been assisting these athletes since 2014 with regard to providing coaching, equipment, nutrition-related counseling, entry fee, registrations, and in compiling past results and evaluation. Vikram Singh, Assistant Director and Coach and Team Manager,  had conducted a 10-day special coaching camp in athletics at IIT Delhi from 1 December to 9 December 2016.
